HIMALAYAN GUIDED TRIPS TO TREKKING PEAKS
HIMALAYAN 6000m
ISLAND PEAK 6189m, MERA PEAK 6476m and the EVEREST TREK, NEPAL OCTOBER 2001
With Katrina Benecke and Dave Macleod (NZMGA, NZOIA)
In October 1998 we led this trip to Nepal with three clients. Mark Hasselman and Carey Vivien successfully climbed to the summit of Island Peak(Imja Tse). David Webster and Carey Vivien successfully summited Mera Peak. Carey also snowboarded from the summit of Mera.It is a wonderful trip for the aspiring climber and fit tramper. Limited climbing experience is required although knowledge of the use of climbing equipment such as crampons, harness and jumar are necessary. Acclimatisation is the key to a successful trip of this kind and the picturesque walk up the Khumbu valley into Everest Base camp (5300m) and/or up Mt Kala Pattar (5554m) is an ideal way to start the trip.
The goals of the trip are to trek the Khumbu and Hinku valleys, and climb two 6000 metre mountains (Island and Mera are the highest of the Nepal Trekking Peaks). There is also an option to ski/snowboard off Mera Peak.
Trip duration: Full tour approx 35 days New Zealand return
